Is DOTS any good?
Haven't you heard? The new KBS2 drama that was recently ended known as Descendants of The Sun (or DOTS for simplicity) had receive plenty of attention by legitly the whole knation. At first I figured because the main lead - Song Joong Ki is FINALLY BACK INTO DRAMALAND!! I mean he was away for awhile serving the army and this comeback was really anticipated by fans.
Me being one of them /blush
However, it got waaay bigger that even non-kfans heard of it... Previously another drama called Cheese In The Trap also had about the same hype at first but the ending was a let down so it cooled of towards the end. It's a different story for DOTS. I heard that the writer was planning to have a sad ending but since the viewers got so high they turned it into a happy one and I was glad they did. Up until the ending people still talk about it, either shipping the SongSongCouple (Song Joong Ki & Song Hye Kyo), funny BTS or just the fact that Yoo Si Jin was just too charming.
The plot was somewhat out of the whole 'chaebol and poor girl' settings yet still kinda feel like the superiority of the character's jobs made the same impact and I find it interesting in that sense. For an army setting drama, this is my first. However, in my opinion the fact that Song Joong Ki is Yoo Si Jin alone is a good enough reason for it to be a hit. I strongly agree that Yoo Si Jin is a dream girl's man but then Kang Mo Yeon (Song Hye Kyo) is too normal for them to be a diehard couple in the drama. They teases each other, fight the way couples fight and have that kind of relationship but smtg is missing among those two. Could it be the lack of affection? Well, the skinship didn't make me feel anything which was kinda frustrating since this is a kdrama we're talkin bout. Even the second couple shows more affectionate acts. The thing that kept the relationship nice is probably the jokes Yoo Si Jin pulls. The female lead is just a meh for such a charming guy tbh.
On the bright side, I love the friendship that the soldiers and doctors have either among themselves or one another. It was more like a family love rather than friendship love. The on-screen couples are all adorable and the antagonist was a minor hate. I didn't have a strong hate against the bad guy in the drama but ofc the hate still lingers.
The drama opens up my eyes even if it's a little bit to understand the different perspective of people with different backgrounds. This shows how tough someone's life out there just doing what they think will lead to a better tomorrow.
Drama setting is nice, plot was good enough that completes as a good drama, characters were admirable and respectable and lastly the actors were all fine
It was worth the watch. Sixteen episodes is a perfect duration to end a story well - not too fast, not too slow. I'd rate it 9/10... if only it wasn't too PG13 oops.
Dropping by,
Melynn.
