6 months for a P license

by - May 01, 2016

As a high school senior, many would be dreaming of dozens of thing that they'll wanna do after SPM. Wanting to get a job, a driver's license, hanging out with friends and yadayada you name it! Well the fact is that, not everything can be done. Or worse, nothing would be done in the end. Good thing for me I got to accomplish something after 6 months ever since SPM - getting a P license. Not gonna lie, I was expecting to get the license in a month or 2. Guess that was too much to ask for.

I enrolled in December last year at Safety Driving Centre (SDC). Got my L license end of January and it expires in April. Throughout the 3 months, there were about 10 appointments of an hour or two per class. After the first class, I felt culture-shocked. I mean, an hour only trying to adjust myself in a car I never been in is just taking things too fast. So what I did to be better in a shorter period was, talk things out with better experienced drivers - my parents. After class I'll tell them whatever I learnt and couldn't understand so then they would explain in a simpler way for me until I got things straight. That deffo helped. I was well-prepared for the next class so things got better after that. I repeated the same technique after each class so even after a 2-week gap between current and next appointment, I could still remember what was taught.

Best way to learn fast? Make mistakes. Most of the questions I asked my parents were the mistakes I couldn't fix during class. Being open about what you didn't understand also a great (and faster) way to enhance your understanding. Being a step ahead for each class is a good way to not fall too far behind especially when you have like only 3 classes per month. I always ensure to not redo the same mistakes or even relearn what has been well taught  to avoid wasting my hours. Silly mistakes and carelessness happens all the time so the best thing to do is to control it to a minimum level.

If after my 18th April JPJ test and let's say things didn't go well and I failed, what happen then?
Firstly, my L license will be ending the same month. So more money and more time needed to renew that. Secondly, it'll cost a couple hundred more for another class before another retest. Thirdly, being in another loooong waiting list. Based on a friend who needed to retake the test, his next class will be in June. That means 2 months only waiting for the next class... Talk about insanity. Lastly, another bet on passing. The anxiety was killing me. I didn't need to die twice.

Sooo for those taking the test anytime soon, good luck and pray hard. Focus well while doing the test and you'll do fine.

Dropping by,
Melynn.
