Heaven for nerds... or bookworms

by - December 15, 2013

WARNING: This is from the point of view of a person who doesn't read books but is trying to start a reading habit.

Since the 6th of December, there was a sale held in MIECC, The Mines in Seri Kembangan. It was claimed to be "The World's Biggest Book Sale"... it's the BIG BAD WOLF SALE!!!!

Yeah so I obviously went there. FINALLY. After begging my parents for the whole of last week everyday after they arrived home from work. Well, glad it paid off. Now let me put the story in before, during and after parts of the sale, shall we?

BEFORE:
I Twitter-searched "Big Bad Wolf sale" beforehand to see if anyone posted pictures of books they've bought from the sale. Like I guessed, there were TONS of pictures like that posted on Instagram (mostly). That was like a survey for me to see what kind of books are available for sale so that it would give me some rough idea to what I should expect. Intentionally, I have been wanting to buy The Hunger Games trilogy or the Divergent trilogy because of the great reviews and feedback from readers. Well they are (or in Divergent's case, soon to be) a MAJOR MOTION FILM so there's no doubt of the well-written'ness' of the book. I saw their Twitter & FB page posted a pic of The Hunger Games trilogy on the preview day so I was kinda looking forward to that. I also searched on the Big Bad Wolf official website and found out that The Carrie Diaries and the sequel Summer in The City are gonna be available there so I added them into the 'books I'm buying' (imaginary) list.

The other book besides the ones mentioned that was in my list was "Lucy in The Sky" by Paige Toon. A book that I found out from the Twitter-search and it was said that Paige Toon's books are good so thought that I should give it a go.

DURING:
This process was unexpected at all. Since I came quite late (it was on the 2nd last night) MOST of the books were scattered literally all over the table. It hurts my eyes to just look for the books that were in my list. I came at around 12:30am and it feels like during the peak hours as the hall was fully-packed.

After tired of not finding the books that I wanted, I tried asking about 7 crews there for The Carrie Diaries series and only one of them actually knew the author (Candace Bushnell) but all of them said they've NEVER seen the book before. That was really disappointing as the title was listed on their website. I was just like /shock. I didn't actually bothered to look for The Hunger Games when I was there since I have a strong feeling they're no longer available and I think I was right. But luckily I found Lucy in The Sky so that kinda makes up to it because at least I found the one book that was in my list but still not very happy with the crews' answers.

AFTER:
So finally I came home with these beauties.

1) Lucy in The Sky by Paige Toon

2) Under The Never Sky & Through The Ever Night by Veronica Rossi

Under The Never Sky synopsis

Through The Ever Night synopsis
At first I saw the Through The Ever Night book at the young adult section and thought that it was one of the Divergent trilogy at the first look and when I saw the author's name believe me, my eyes were suddenly widen. I read "Veronica Ro- expecting it to be -th but it ended with -ssi. I mentally face-palmed and just left the book where I found it.
But as soon as I saw the Under The Never Sky book at the general fiction section, I went back to grab it. These are actually a trilogy but the 3rd book, Into The Still Blue was due out 2014. Hopefully I can finish reading these books by then.

3) The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern

Didn't have any intention in buying this book at first even though I've seen people walking home with it but after reading the synopsis I am actually looking forward to read it.

4) Can You See Me? by Ruth Gilligan

Saw this on the table full of books, attracted by the beautiful baby blue cover, read the synopsis, hooked and so it ended up following me home.

6) I HATE PEOPLE! by Jonathan Littman & Marc Hershon

Close-up of the contents.

Close-up of others' reviews
This book was from the Business section. I don't know how I ended at that part of the book sale, but the minute I read the title I was like /hmm "This is interesting...". And the minute I open the book and flip through the first few pages, I immediately started giggling and laughing to myself. I find it funny how true the statements in the book are.
Basically it's about how to deal with co-workers who are annoying. But the annoyance was explained detail in the book which I find entertaining. And knowing I'll be in that position some day, I guess this can also be the book for my age. Besides, it's a little twist than my other romance novels.

At the end of the day, I got back from the sale at 2:30am. I couldn't stay longer as my feet was aching and it was too crowded to look for more interesting books. Despite the fact that my parents can't wait for me any longer. I got home and burnt RM48 from my purse. Each book that I bought was RM8 if you were wondering. The sale is until 11:59pm today (15th of December) but I bet by the time you're reading this it's too late already so nvm.

P.S. I am just sharing my experience since it was my first Big Bad Wolf sale, if you find this post unhelpful at all then too bad /wahaha.

Xx,
Melynn.
