Rating 10 Web Dramas You Can Watch on Youtube Pt.1

by - July 10, 2020

In case you think I would stop watching kdramas completely during the busiest time of the semester, you thought wrong!

Whenever I have so many things on my plate and my only spare time is meal time, I resort to watching web dramas instead. There has been an increase in web drama channels on YouTube and it's honestly a paradigm shift for the k-entertainment.

The only lack there might be is that web dramas are mostly school-based. Not might be for everyone but if you're looking for a light yet chill drama, this list might be for you!

Not in any favoritism order. Here we go.

1. Ordinary but Special
Credits to MyDramaList
Adapted from webtoon but unlike the poster, this is a web drama. It is a 6-episode drama of 15-20 minutes per episode. You can find the full compiled version (1 hour 40 mins) >> here <<

Release date: 8th April 2020

Synopsis: This drama tells the story of a girl - Han Haneul (Jeong Ye Seo), who found out she was two-timed by the guy she thought she was dating. On the other hand, her childhood male friend - Yoon Semin (Song Ho Rim) who's already in a relationship suddenly cares for her more than a friend which causes a misunderstanding with his girlfriend, Baek Yoo Hwa (Choi Li). Haneul also found out that the tsundere boy in her class  - Kim Woo Hyun (Hwang Jung Ha) also happens to secretly have a crush on her. While spending time in the same student's club, their situation became complicated.

Thoughts: It's satisfying that all the characters had their own conflicts in the drama then manage to solve them by the end of it. It's well-made with good casts. There are moments you will be annoyed by the characters but eventually it is wrapped up better than I expected.

Rating: 8/10 (Recommended)

Watch if you:
1. Like school-based drama.
2. Like male lead who doesn't know how to express himself well.

Release dates:
Season 1 - 24th April 2020
Season 2 - 10th June 2020

Synopsis: The story begins with Oh Nari's (OH MY GIRL's Arin) freshman year in high school and her ex-middle school best friend she didn't expect to see again - Im Yuna (Hwang Boreum Byeol). As these two tried to get back along with each other, an idol trainee, Mirae (Han Chae Kyung) and a girl who has no friends, Im Sunji (FANATICS' Do Ah), begins hanging out with them. Their friendship started from Yuna trying to get Nari's attention while pushing Mirae and Sunji away, to growing deeper understanding with each other. They faces conflicts involving boys and some other jealous girls along the way.

Thoughts: This drama is very girl-empowering. It does not only tackle love interests but also friendships between different personalities and background. The humour in this drama is pretty lame but pretty entertaining too lol. I enjoy seeing the variety of actings here.

Rating: 9/10 (Highly recommended)

Watch if you:

2. Like school-based drama.

Release dates:
Season 1 - 30th July 2019
Season 2 - 2nd April 2020

Synopsis: When a kind and nice girl Kim Yeon Doo (Lee Eun Jae) used someone else's picture as a scapegoat to get rid of the guy stalking her, she ended up in trouble after uploading a picture of the school's "bully" unknowingly. The "bully" - Ji Hyeon Ho (Kang Yul), got pissed at her so Yeon Doo decided to become his bread shuttle (person who buys bread for another person, typically for a bully). Yeon Doo then learns that Hyeon Ho isn't as what people expected and only got his bad reputation from simply not abiding to the rules and getting bad grades at school.

Thoughts: It's an eye-opening drama for the unrealistic standards people have on others. Hard to understand people's baseless assumptions towards us but reality is, it happens around us. The love story ain't too mushy for the girl but it was for the guy which to me was honestly cute.

Rating: 9.5/10 (Highly recommended)

Watch if you:
1. Like to follow dramas with seasons.
2. Like school-based drama.
3. Like having second lead syndromes.
4. Like "bad guy, good girl" drama.
5. Interested in hot and tall actors. Check out the model-idol-actor boy group 'The Man BLK' because 6 of the members acted in this series.

4. Last Minute Romance
This is not exactly a web drama but a short kdrama instead. It has only 2 episodes of slightly more than 1 hour each. You can watch it on YouTube as well!

Episode 1 >> here <<
Episode 2 >> here <<

Disclaimer: I am aware that the main lead Lee Seo Won is charged with sexual harassment back in 2018. I am no way in supporting his disgusting act but I'm sharing this one too, solely because of the drama. Please don't get me wrong and watch this only if you please.

Release date: 23rd October 2017

Synopsis: Baek Se (Han Seung Yeon) is a girl with last stage cancer who works at a lifeline center answering calls from the phone booth at Han River. She is a huge fan of Ji Seol Woo (Lee Seo Won) who acted in many famous movies and dramas. As she was dying, her last wish is to date her favourite actor or anyone who's willing to act like Ji Seol Woo for a lump sum of money in return. Yoon Dong Joon is an aspiring actor who looks exactly like Ji Seol Woo, but struggles to be in the spotlight for his poor acting skills. While having thoughts to get rid of the 'Ji Seol Woo' image on him by doing plastic surgery, he then met Baek Se, who proposed a Dating Employment Contract to him because of his 'Ji Seol Woo' resemblance.

Thoughts: The storyline started off pretty cringy that it pains me to watch at first. However, towards the end of episode 1, the story does get better and I like how the drama emphasize on "kdrama" as the main settings. This drama is sweet in an unexpected way and send feels even though it's predictable.

Rating: 7/10 (Recommended with exceptions)

Watch if you:
1. Don't mind cringing at the lines, the acting and just overall.
2. Can handle sad ending.
3. Like predictable yet cute storyline.
4. Like to watch story of people with normal lives. Nothing fancy.

5. Will Be Okay, Never Die
Credits to MyDramaList
It is a 6-episode drama of 9-14 minutes per episode. The full playlist for it can be found >> here <<

Release Date: 27th June 2019

Synopsis: Oh Min Ju (Jo Woo Ri) works at a publishing company as an editor and always causes trouble at work despite already working for 3 years. Whenever she's stressed, she always drinks beer to relieve it. Kim Do Hoon (Kang Yul) is a new employee and have great specs in his resume. He is interested in Min Ju but always seems to annoy her for his praiseworthy attitude.

Thoughts: Because this drama is very short, it doesn't tackle many aspects. Min Ju's work life reminds me of how we always dreamt of so many big things for ourselves but often times, we end up forgetting about it altogether. Sometimes when we take a step back to relax, the solution might just be around us this whole time.

Rating: 6.5/10 (Just an okay)

Watch if you:
1. Like office-drama.
2. Like a pinch of office romance.
3. Don't mind seeing them promoting beers in like every scene.
4. Wants to see some reality of working environment.

6. Gogh, The Starry Night

This is the longest drama in this list with 20-episodes and 17-22 minutes per episode.
You can find the full playlist >> here <<

Release date: 2nd July 2016

Synopsis: This drama tells the story of Go Ho (SNSD's Kwon Yuri) who works at an advertising company and always get scolded by her hard-to-please boss - Kang Tae Ho (Kim Young Kwang). Despite doing a good job, he always finds flaws in her work. One day, she was transferred to a different team to work under a new boss. She started facing a huge dilemma when her new boss turns out to be her ex, Hwang Ji Hoon (Lee Ji Hoon).

Thoughts: This almost feels like a normal kdrama with family and relationship aspects covered. The character Go Ho is very simple yet her attitude and personality really resonates with me. This takes the phrase "strong independent woman" into the most down-to-earth way I've ever seen. Everything about this drama is ordinary but charming in its own ways.

Rating: 8/10 (Recommended)

Watch if you:
1. Want something more than a web drama but not so much of an actual kdrama.
2. Like to watch dramas with love triangle... or many angles even.
3. Like to watch post-breakup drama.
4. Like office-drama.

7. The Guilty Secret
Credits to MyDramaList
It has a total of 12-episodes with 9-16 minutes per episode. You can find the full playlist >> here <<

Release date: 29th September 2019

Synopsis: A story of Woo Jisu (Kim Nuri) who has a lot of secrets, yet never felt the need to tell her high school friends until a new transfer student turns out to be the only friend who knew all of her big secrets, So Miji (Kim Seo Yeon). Afraid of people finding out, Jisu started acting out-of-character and doubted Miji's loyalty.

Thoughts: I need a Season 2! This was somewhat an extension of the "A-Teen" series with totally different casts and I love it just as much as I loved "A-Teen". It's more of a friendship drama over lovers, and I think it has similar elements to "A-Teen". You'll learn a lot and can relate if you're going through or had such a secretive phase in your life.

Rating: 8/10 (Recommended)

Watch if you:
1. Liked the "A-Teen" series.
2. Like school-based drama.
3. Like suspense and uncertainty.
4. Interested in unraveling secrets.
5. Don't mind seeing cute 2nd couple for the romance part instead.

Season 2

You can find the playlist for Season 1 >> here << and Season 2 >> here <<

Release date:
Season 1 - 6th August 2019
Season 2 - 19th June 2020

Synopsis: This drama started off with just a regular high school BTS fangirl and progresses into a university student. As a high school senior, Kang Dami (Min Do Hee) juggles finding a university to pursue her studies as well as being a dedicated YouTuber and a fangirl. In the midst of her struggles, her two smart best friends - Lee Harim (Jin Ye Ju) and Yoon Sung Hyun (Ryeoun) accompany her as she made brave yet "stupid" decisions, by having dreams to pursue her studies at a university in Seoul despite of her terrible grades.

Thoughts: A very fresh and relatable drama for us fangirls. Relationships and friendship in this drama is definitely out of the typically group of friends I see in any other web dramas - the amount of love-hate in their friendship though haha. The mother-daughter bond in this drama is also a unique highlight to it. Because this drama just started on Season 2 as of the time I am writing this, I can't write much about it but I'm loving it so far!

Rating: 10/10 (Highly recommended! Must watch!)

Watch if you:
1. Want a fast-paced drama.
2. Are a huge fangirl who sometimes have problems with your parents due to it.
3. Want to know the before and after stories of a high school student who actually ends up in university.
4. Want some good kdrama humour cos it can get hilarious.

9. Gaduri Restaurant
Credits to MyDramaList
This is a drama with 12 episodes and 14-19 minutes per episode. You can find the playlist >> here <<

Release date: 9th June 2020

Synopsis: Ga Duri (Lee Joo Bin) is a tarot card reader and a seafood restaurant owner who runs her business at the ground level of a building while she lives on the floor above. She is always admired for her good looks and charisma. One day, she bumped into a guy carrying a box of underwear who just moved in next door - Cha Woo Bin (VIXX's Hyuk). Little did she know, he is the CEO of an underwear company.

Thoughts: This drama is a bit weird to me. The concept and humour is not like the usual kdrama. But I actually enjoy it. Quiet a fresh storyline with unique characters. Because this drama started after 'Best Mistake' ended, there are casts from 'Best Mistake' featured in here too, though I don't really think it relates in any way. I also didn't know at first that the male lead is Hyuk from VIXX, though I've heard of the name before hahah.

Rating: 8/10 (Recommended)

Watch if you:
1. Like cooking drama.
2. Like to watch "strong girl, strong guy" drama.
3. Want a drama that can be a little crazy and unpredictable.
4. Don't mind them promoting undergarments.

10. One Fine Week
Credits to MyDramaList
Also known as '7 Days of Romance'. It has 10 episodes with 9-15 minutes per episode. You can find the full playlist here >> here <<

Release date: 8th October 2019

Synopsis: Jung Da-Eun (Lovelyz's Seo Jisoo), a normal cafe part-timer switched lives with a girl group idol - Kim Byul (acted by the same person), to star in a dating reality show. Due to Byul's anxiety and poor health condition, Da-Eun who looks identical to Byul, ended up participating in a 7-days reality show with a famous boy group idol, Han Jungwoo (Shin Jun Seop). Within the 7-days of staying in close proximity, Da-Eun begins to develop feelings for Jungwoo while Byul begins to develop feelings for the cafe owner (Park Geon Il).

Thoughts: This story indeed gives the butteflies. It was actually recommended by my good friend (who's a fan of Lovelyz) and totally forgot about it til I came across it recently. The ending's quite a bummer because of the lack of ending scenes shown, but wasn't a total disappointment. Story-wise, I'm pretty satisfied with it.

Rating: 7/10 (Just an okay)

Watch if you:
1. Like another "Cinderella" cliche.
2. Like some identity switch drama.
3. Want a drama that revolves around kpop idol.
4. Like a little story of "characters with painful memories" kind of drama.
