Shifting Class (degree update)

by - March 08, 2019

Direct Entry (DE) may seem like a good thing because we could waive our subjects from diploma and skip a year of degree. But at times, those aren't the case because DE started off exhaustive for me.

One of the things we are required to do for this and also the upcoming sem is to arrange our timetable. Sounds fun since we can arrange who and what day should we take for certain classes and what day should we set free (no Friday classes, for example) BUT THEN reality came and I've been asked to leave a class bcos my name isn't included in the list, recommended to take other lecturer's class bcos most times lab classes are full and lastly, we are expected to act like 2nd year students even though we literally just got into degree like 3-4 weeks ago. In conclusion, degree life is hard. The subjects we take are less lenient on us, but still I love the course I took bcos the people around me are all such wonderful companions. I'm taking the course for software (BITS) and database (BITD) happens to have many of my friends, those 2 courses belong to one department so many classes that we take are the same and that's one more thing I'm glad about.

Despite all that, I am alone most times. One of my proudest trait is I don't follow people and do what I want to... but if I happen to choose smtg that meets someone else's choice, I'm thankful for that but otherwise, I'll be fine. Therefore, I'm on my own for one of the subject (also the subject I have to retake bcos it's University's subject) - TITAS.

The option that I had was either to take our previous TITAS lecturer, call him Mr. M, or to go to other course's class but on different time and day. I didn't wanted Mr. M, bcos to me he doesn't give the knowledge I wanted plus his class is so boring whenever he recycle his jokes. I actually entered his first class in hope I was wrong about him. But I came out thinking, how do you expect me to laugh over smtg he kept on repeating since 3 years ago?? But guess I'm the only one who hates his ways while the rest of my coursemates decided to attend his class. So I had no choice but to find another lecturer on my own.

Boy, I'm glad I did. My new TITAS lecturer is the best Sejarah teacher I could ever asked for. I have never heard someone talk about Sejarah and speaks about it so interestingly that I could hear about it all day without falling asleep. Being a visual person, I love how she drew a map and tell stories about the civilization of the world (basically what TITAS is all about) by telling it chronologically. And even more fun is how she relates back her stories to her slides. Like not getting off track like that is just awesome. She tells me so many new things I never knew about. Imagine taking a similar class 3 years ago and actually learning smtg new just bcos I change my teacher. That's smtg totally worth sacrificing for!

For example, I found out that Greek is the earliest civilization and it was earlier than Rome's. Greek has many great philosophers like Socrates and Aristotle while Rome is famous for violent like why Colosseum is build for. Also Greek have many Gods and Goddesses and how Olympia and Olympus relates to why Olympic exists, which started as a ritual at first. And how Islam came to Africa first only to enter the Europe later when they discovered the slate of Mediterranean between those 2 continents. All this while, I never questioned such chronological reasons to how exactly did Islam, which started from Mecca, spread to a different continent like Europe. All I knew was Islam was spread. From only one TITAS class, I learned so many new facts that just blew my mind. All this first year kid around me, should be so thankful to have this lecturer. To me, she is exactly the light I was praying for when I decided to not attend Mr. M's class, unlike my other friends who decided to just "tahan je".

P.S. I knew I haven't blogged for 2 months... I miss updating my life too. My 2019 timeline would not look pretty. I've just been too focus on my dance account on IG, sowwy.

Dropping by,
Melynn.
