See, another drama update. This is how free I am right now.
I shall continue my review with another not-so-recent drama known as 'Uncontrollably Fond' starring Kim Woo Bin and Bae Suzy. This drama aired on KBS2 from July til September 2016 for 20 episodes.

Ok, some clarification. So even before I started watching, I am well aware that the ending will be very very sad. *cough* Woo Bin dies *cough* However, I decided to see their sadness for myself and tbh, it is my first time watching Suzy's drama lol.
The first few episodes of this drama is filled with flashbacks. The beginning was a bit confusing on how Shin Joon Young (Kim Woo Bin) and No Eul's (Bae Suzy) friendship started back in high school. It's the kind of melodrama that has so many tragedies happening at the starting. He has a freaking cancer, she is being chased by loan sharks after her dad died in a hit-and-run accident... Haih baru mula tengok, dah sedih dah.
The butterflies started forming when the second male lead appears. Meet Lim Ju Hwan as Choi Ji Tae @ Lee Hyun Woo a.k.a Joon Young's half brother. Hahaha the fact that it's another fight between brothers over a girl ahh #drama. And if you've watched Scarlet Heart Ryeo, does this drama remind you of something? Like maybe the fact that both the girl in these two dramas have an initial interest towards the second male lead instead of the main lead AND that the male leads' mum both despise them... WAH SIMILAR GILA!!
Additionally, I wanna say smtg about Suzy's acting. I didn't expect anything good from her, bcos all I know that she's pretty and many Korean guys (especially idols) like her kind-of-look dunno whether it's true but I heard about it before... Fortunately, her acting in this drama wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. I kinda dig her cute acting. Her character does whine a lot and it can sound a bit annoying but really though, she can pull it off so well. Her facial expressions are funny too... really made me laugh in between the heart aches.
Kim Woo Bin's character is simply hot, both hot looking and hot tempered ahah. His acting was pretty impressive when portraying somebody who's in a lot of pain and pitiful but at the same time showing off his trademark character - a jerk. The beautiful side of Shin Joon Young is his love for his mother and all his efforts to please her. He took a turn on his life when he chose to go against her wish of wanting him to be a prosecutor. But even though his mum disowned him, in the end the story unravels itself to why he did what he did and things fall back into place despite being too late. It pains me to see how regretful he is, yet he couldn't do much to mend all of it.
One thing I am very surprised to see in this drama is when ditching the girl was taken to a whole new level. Joon Young not only seduced the other girl - Yoon Jeong Eun, but also (SPOILER!!!) ..... freakin kissed her! ARGH WHY WOULD YOU GO THAT FAR?!? 😱
But believing he still do love No Eul, I kept my thoughts positive thinking it's for her sake throughout the rest of the episodes. Joon Young was seen so clueless to whether he should be with No Eul or not, and I love when his mum cleared it up saying smtg like "You don't have to hold yourself back. We don't have any relation with Choi Hyun Joon".
I somewhat felt like the suspense was held for too long. It took his biological father so long to figure things out, but only took his wife and son quarter the time... -_-" But even after finding out, the father is so irresponsible is2g, his character was seriously unexpected - the devil in disguise.
One thing I love is how Joon Young's brain disease causes him to forget all his past worries and make him think he's still living in those glory days when he was healthy and younger. Pretty sure we all prefer having the thought of him having a happy life better than having him die suffering.
Every thing fell perfectly in place and all the characters made up to all their designated ending. It's just a well-ended drama. Also the fact that they actually implanted the idea that Joon Young is dying and will die since the beginning, then after being constantly reminded of it made the expectation on him not able to survive bigger within the viewers. Again, not much of a surprise there and it was wrapped up neatly which made me rate it a 7/10 for satisfactory in plot (though cliche la jugak) and for acting purposes.
Dropping by,
Melynn.
